    The different types of inserts

Titanox : Versatile inserts for all industrial sectors

Titanox inserts are essential technical fasteners used in various sectors of industry to strengthen and optimise the assembly of parts. Their versatility means they can be used in rail, aerospace, medical, military, electrical, food and even marine applications. Titanox offers five ranges of inserts. Each is tailored to specific needs. These include Multisert®, Microbarb®, Trisert®, Foamset® and Hi-Mould®.

In this article, we’ll discuss the many advantages of inserts, whether in plastics, thermoplastics and thermosets, composites or light metal alloys. We’ll also look at the different ways in which they can be installed.

Multisert® range : Reliable inserts for plastics

The inserts in the Multisert® range are designed for force-fitting to plastic materials. Their finned shape ensures secure and reliable anchoring, as well as excellent resistance to twisting and tearing forces. These inserts can be inserted by ultrasound, heat or simple pressure.

    1. The headless insert : Available in two lengths, standard and short, it is used for flush joints in thermoplastics. It can be used with a shouldered housing to increase its tensile strength.
    2. The thin-head inser t: Available in standard and short lengths, it offers high resistance to rotation in thermoplastics. It also has a large head area for perfect conductivity for electrical terminals.
    3. The double-thickness head insert : Available in two lengths, this guarantees better tensile strength thanks to the double thickness of the head. It is recommended for applications in soft materials. It can be used with a shouldered housing to increase its tensile strength.

Microbarb® range : Inserts for thin parts

The Microbarb® range is designed for thin parts made from thermoplastics and thermosets. It features an extra-short insert with a wide head to provide larger contact surfaces on workpieces.

    Trisert® range : High-performance self-tapping inserts

The Trisert® range is a set of self-tapping brass inserts designed for thermoplastic and thermosetting materials. Its 3-spline profile ensures high performance. The range includes a variety of inserts :

    1. The reversible headless insert : Available in three lengths, it can be used with a shouldered housing to increase its tensile strength through the workpiece. Its symmetrical shape simplifies installation, makes automatic feeding possible and reduces costs.
    2. The headless self-tapping insert with close tolerances : Available in three lengths, this insert is designed for thermosetting materials.
    3. Reduced-head self-tapping insert : Available in two lengths, this offers improved tensile strength thanks to a larger bearing surface.
    4. Wide-head self-tapping insert : Available in two lengths, this is ideal for soft materials. It offers excellent tensile strength thanks to its large bearing surface.

Trisert-3® range : An alternative to brass for better resistance in difficult environments

The Trisert-3® range is designed to produce strong threads in lightweight materials such as plastics, thermoplastics and thermosets, composites and light metal alloys. These self-tapping inserts are one-piece. They require no special tooling and do not deform when the supported part deforms.

The Trisert-3® range includes inserts in carbon steel, 303 Series stainless steel, 316 Series stainless steel and Ti5 titanium. It offers solutions for harsh and corrosive environments. Titanium, in particular, is recommended for applications in extremely harsh or corrosive environments thanks to its high strength and low density. This makes it ideal for use in the aerospace and marine industries.

This range also offers blind inserts, which can be moulded or self-tapping. This offers flexibility of use from the early prototype stages through to the final production run. The reduced head of the Trisert-3® ensures a clean, crisp bearing surface for the complementary part.

    Foamsert® range : Inserts for low-density materials

The Foamsert® range is designed for low-density materials such as fibrous materials, wood and foams. These self-tapping inserts feature a wider thread and increased pull-out resistance thanks to their countersunk head.

Hi-Mould® range : Overmoulding inserts for thermoplastics, thermosets and certain metals

The Hi-Mould® range offers threaded inserts for overmoulding into thermoplastics, thermosets and certain metals. With their two-groove design, they offer excellent tensile strength. A smooth pin ensures precise positioning of the insert in the mould. This prevents unscrewing after moulding, reducing the time lost with the mould open. The result is increased productivity.

In conclusion, Titanox inserts are indispensable technical fasteners in all industrial sectors. They offer a multitude of options for valid fasteners in plastic materials.
